With summer’s high temperatures, it can be easy to start to get bogged down in the heat, rather than taking extra advantage of the sunnier days of the season.
You might be using these longer days to spend more time with family and friends, for long weekends out of town, or at least lounging inside in the A/C.
If you’re embracing the slowness of the summer, we applaud you! But for some folks, you may already be thinking about the return to school and work in earnest.
Looking for a way to strike that balance between work and play while the days are still long? Here are some tips to keep things slow and easeful in these last days of summer.
Make Rest a Project
Give your body and mind time to rest and recharge. Make “Take time to rest” a week-sized project, then add “recovery blocks” as tasks on your Daily Planner. They can be as long or short as you need but make the time on your calendar.
Taking breaks – both long and short ones – means that you’ll be back in action with more energy and enthusiasm for your best work and push those projects forward. Rest is a win in itself.
No More Than Five Active Projects Per Timescale
The Five Projects Rule applies no matter the season, but that doesn’t mean we don’t all need a reminder from time to time. Start by thinking about what (no more than) five month-sized projects you aim to complete this month (work and personal projects), then work down to the five projects for this week. Once you’ve done that, you can use Momentum to help you flesh out the rest of the month and week.
Ease Into Fall Planning
At some point this month you might start thinking about what’s to come next month or next quarter. Use this period of calm before the storm of back-to-work / back-to-school to visualize what you want the rest of your year to look like. What do you want it to feel like? You don’t have to plan out the how quite yet, focus on the what first.
The most exciting part of these tips is that you can now apply them within Momentum itself — and you can try it now with a 30-day free trial.
We would love to see you at one of our Momentum Planning Webinars, where we dig more deeply into the app and how it can help you get more centered on your projects.
